OVERVIEW
The Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad (E&LS) is
a privately owned shortline railroad company
operating in Northeastern Wisconsin and the
Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Under current
ownership, the E&LS has expanded from the
original core line of 65 miles that was purchased in
1978, to over 235 miles of operating railroad in
2005. The E&LS is headquartered in Wells, MI,

Maintaining existing business as well as adding
new customers continues to guide the marketing
efforts of the E&LS. In conjunction with reliable
and competitively priced rail service, the E&LS
works with customer everyday to insure that their
freight transportation requirements are met
successfully. From customer service personnel to
the operating department, the E&LS builds lasting
business relationships in order to meet the
challenges of moving freight by rail for shippers in

Full Service Car Repair and Paint shop
The E&LS Railroad operates a modern, full-service
railcar repair and paint facility in the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan. Located in Escanaba and
Wells, the E&LS has turned out thousands of cars
since 1991, including the conversion of boxcars. The
specially designed blast, paint and stencil building is
equipped with state-of-the-art technology for fast,
efficient and environmentally safe production. Our
M1003 certified Quality Assurance Program tracks
both materials and procedures utilized so that all
AAR, Federal, State and local requirements are met,
including environmental regulations.
